License Renewal

Individuals with a Standard Professional II license have a five-year renewal cycle in which time the holder must meet renewal requirements.  The requirements of license renewal are as follows:

  • ALL licensed individuals must complete a minimum of fifteen (15) Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) within the five year period. (Note: One CEU is granted for each year of full-time employment within the renewal cycle.)
  • Kindergarten through 8th grade teachers ONLY must complete a minimum of three (3) CEU’s in Reading Methods.  This includes Art, Music, PE and Exceptional Children’s teachers who teach students in grades K – 8.
  • School Administrators must complete a minimum of five (5) CEU’s during each renewal cycle focused on the Principal’s role in teacher effectiveness, teacher evaluations, teacher support programs, teacher leadership, teacher empowerment, and teacher retention.  This requirement applies to school administrators renewing their licenses on or after July 1, 2007.

Individuals employed at the time of renewal will automatically receive a statement for you to indicate whether or not you have been convicted of a crime within the past five years (usually occurs in early April).  Upon receipt of the completed statement (dependent upon your response) and verification of completion of renewal requirements, the Staffing Office will order your renewed license.  The original license will be sent to the employee and a copy will remain in your district Personnel file.
