Consideration for Naming of Northwest Guilford High School Football Stadium

As reported at the September 12, 2006 Board Meeting, Mr. Randy Southard, on behalf of the community, has requested that the Northwest Guilford High School (NWGS) football stadium be named in honor of a distinguished individual who has made outstanding contributions to the Guilford County School system, as well as the community.
Pursuant to the procedure on the naming of schools (FDCA-P), a nomination form and accompanying support documents were provided by Mr. Southard for review and consideration of naming the Northwest football stadium the R.L. Billings Stadium.
The recommended name was posted on the district website for a period of public comment and feedback. There were no comments received.
RECOMMENDATION: Based on the recommendation of the community effort and in the absence of further public comment, the administration recommends the board approve the use of the name R.L. Billings Stadium. If the name is approved, staff will contact the community representative to review the plans for any signage the community effort would provide.
