2006 Perley A. Thomas Award – Jim Moen

Guilford County Schools lost a valued colleague and friend, when James “Jim” Moen passed away in late July.

Mr. Moen was well respected locally and throughout the country for his outstanding work in efficient and safe student transportation.  In September 2006, his work was honored by an article in the national School Transportation News magazine.

This past October, Mr. Moen was honored during the 2006 Induction and Awards ceremony of the North Carolina Transportation Hall of Fame with the Perley A. Thomas Award, named in honor of the founder of the now internationally known Thomas Built Buses of High Point, N.C.  The award is designated to recognize and honor outstanding achievement in North Carolina pupil transportation by an individual, business, organization, or agency.

Sharon Ozment, Jeff Harris, Beth Jennings and John Wright attended the ceremony, with Dr. Wright accepting the award on behalf of the Moen family from the president of Thomas Built, John O’Leary.

Dr. Wright will present the award plaque to Mrs. Moen, to be cherished as yet another token and reminder of Jim’s many accomplishments and impact that was felt throughout our state.
