The Guilford County Board of Education met in a special called meeting to discuss its Minority and Women Business Enterprise (MWBE) program on Wednesday, November 1, 2006, at 712 North Eugene Street, Greensboro, North Carolina. The following board members were present: Walter Childs, Alan Duncan, Darlene Garrett, Deena Hayes, Dot Kearns, Susan Mendenhall (departed at 1:25 p.m.), Amos Quick (departed at 1:15 p.m.), Nancy Routh and Anita Sharpe (departed at 1:33 p.m.). Board members Kris Cooke and Marti Sykes were absent. Also present were Superintendent Terry Grier and Attorney Jill Wilson.
Call to Order
Chairman Duncan called the meeting to order at 12:18 p.m.
Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence
Darlene Garrett led the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.
Approval of the Agenda
Chairman Duncan asked board members to review the meeting agenda and called for a motion to approve or amend it. Motion was made by Darlene Garrett, seconded by Deena Hayes, to approve the agenda as presented. The motion passed upon unanimous voice vote.
Minority and Women Business Enterprise (MWBE) Discussion
Chief Finance Officer Sharon Ozment led the board in a discussion of the district’s MWBE program. Consultant Kenneth Johnson, of K. Johnson Consulting Services, Inc., presented her recommendations to the board of education. Ms. Ozment’s and Ms. Johnson’s presentations were followed by a question-and-answer session with the board.
Adjournment
With no further business, at 2:30 p.m., motion was made by Deena Hayes, seconded by Walter Childs, to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
