Carolyn Hiatt is a motivator. “My favorite aspect of teaching is watching a child grow as a learner throughout the year,” said Hiatt. “I love watching a child become interested and motivated to learn independently.”  Carolyn was recognized at the Wachovia Best in Class Awards program on September 26 for her passion and dedication to educational leadership when she was announced not only as the district’s elementary Teacher of the Year, but also as the overall Teacher of the Year. As the district’s 2006-07 overall winner of Teacher of the Year, Carolyn received $1,000 from Wachovia and $500 as the elementary level winner.

Other teachers receiving awards include Janice Clark from Aycock Middle and Kristal Britton from Dudley High. Both received $500 for being the middle school and high school respective winners.  The remaining finalists, George Eckart from The Middle College of Entertainment Technology at GTCC and Michael Joncas from Summerfield Elementary, received $300 each from Wachovia Bank.

Additionally, a car will also be presented to Carolyn by Modern Infiniti, which is sponsored by Harris Teeter Neighborhood Markets. The four Teacher of the Year finalists have their choice of $1,000 in gift certificates to Harris Teeter or the Friendly Center.
