To establish clear student centered learning goals and ensure equity of student learning, Guilford County Schools’ Department of Curriculum and Instruction created North Carolina Course of Study aligned curriculum and pacing guides.  Using the curriculum and pacing guides, GCS teachers are expected to maintain consistency of their instruction through their use of specified objectives that include delineated difficulty levels in order to best facilitate student learning. Since the NCSCOS serves as a framework for the guides along with research-based best practices, the GCS curriculum guide is not solely textbook driven.

Not meant to be a series of day to day lesson plans, these guides give individual teachers choices using a variety of instructional strategies, resources, and assessments in order to develop daily lesson plans that accommodates the individual and collective needs of their students. Currently, the guides include instructional resources including district adopted textbooks, supplemental materials, DPI resources, and online resources.

The GCS curriculum and pacing guides will be reviewed and revised annually to ensure that they are closely aligned with the NCSCOS and that they reflect emerging curricular and assessment trends. GCS Secondary Curriculum and Instruction would like to thank:
