What Do School Counselors Do At Different School Levels?

School counselors at different school levels provide support in different ways:
Elementary counselors work with students as they learn basic social skills.  They focus on helping students learn about conflict resolution, violence prevention, and how to get along with others.

Middle school counselors help students deal with the peer issues that arise in early adolescence.  They also work to help students prepare for high school and future careers.

High school counselors continue to help students with peer problems.  They also help them prepare for college and post-secondary education as well as to explore their career options.

School counselors at all levels help parents and teachers understand developmental levels in students and provide support as they work with their children and students.

Parenting information can be found on the web page of the American School Counselor Association.
