Professional Development

Register here for GCS-MPS Courses: http://www.solutionwhere.com/guilford/cw/CourseByAlpha.asp

The professional development plan for Mission Possible consists of two years of required initial core training with additional training to be determined based on school and individual teacher needs.  Teachers, Curriculum Facilitators, and Principals working in Mission Possible schools participate in training that specifically focuses on the unique needs of these highly impacted schools. No matter what year a Mission Possible school began participation in the Mission Possible grant, it is the faculty member’s participation in the grant program that determines the sequence of required professional development.

Completion Timeline

Faculty members have a large window of opportunity within which to complete all required professional development for a grant participation year.  Required workshops may be taken from June 1st, prior to the start of the participation year, thru June 30th, at the end of the participation year.  This allows employees 13 months to complete all required professional development.  Failure to complete required professional development will result in forfeiture of all incentives.

Course Equivalency

If a teacher feels that they have already completed a course that is equivalent to a required course, they may contact the Mission Possible Office to request a waiver.  In order for a course to qualify for equivalency, it must pass three tests:

  • The course must have been completed within the last two years.
  • The course must be equal to or greater than the time length of the Mission Possible course.
  • The course content must be 80% equivalent or more to the Mission Possible course.

Teachers wanting a course waived should complete the equivalency form below and attach both evidence of course completion and a course content outline to the Mission Possible Office.  The request will be reviewed and a decision will be communicated to the faculty member by the Mission Possible Office.
