As a member of the Guilford County Board of Education, I will work to improve public education, and to that end I will strive to:

1. Recognize that board members are trustees of public education and work daily to protect, conserve and advance the mission and goals of the Guilford County Schools.

2. Act with honesty, fairness, integrity and discretion in all relationships.

3. Assure the opportunity for high quality education and representation for every student and make the well-being of students the fundamental principle for all decisions and actions.

4. Respect the need for the Board to act only as a whole except as specifically authorized otherwise.

5. Respect the principle that the Board of Education shall confine its role to policy-making, planning and appraisal of the superintendent.

6. Honor the majority decisions of the Board of Education.

7. Respect the opinions of others with tolerance and patience.

8. Respect the confidential business of the Board of Education.

9. Act as part of an educational team with mutual respect and regard for each other.

10. Recognize that the superintendent is the educational and administrative leader of the Guilford County Schools.

11. Encourage the superintendent to keep the Board informed in matters appropriate to their responsibilities.

12. Assure the accessibility of the board to the entire community.

13. Encourage and value the involvement of the community with the Guilford County Schools.

14. Respect the need to make informed, timely decisions in the best interest of all children.

15. Procure adequate financial support for the Guilford County Schools.

16. Act to represent the citizens of the entire district which supersedes any
conflicting loyalty a member may have to other advocacy or interest groups, or to an area from which the member may be elected.
