The Guilford County School District is committed to encouraging greater community involvement in our schools and greater community use of our school facilities. To this end, each school in the district will have a Community Schools Advisory Council. Each council shall consist of no more than ten members, half of whom shall be the parents or legal guardians of students in that particular school and one teacher elected by the faculty of the school. High school community schools advisory councils shall contain one student representative. No individual may serve on more than one Council at a time.

Schools that utilize parent/community involvement strategies (such as Comer Parent Team, PTA Board of Directors, or School Improvement Teams that contain the standards of community, staff, and student membership listed above) may use those organizations as their Community Schools Advisory Council.

The Advisory Councils shall meet with school principals on a regular basis. The Community School Advisory Councils shall work with local school principals and staffs and other community groups and agencies to provide maximum opportunities for the schools to serve the communities and to encourage volunteerism and community involvement in the schools. In addition, the Superintendent and/or his designee will meet with the Council Chairpersons from each school once each semester.
