Teaching American History
Overview
The Teaching American History project is designed to build a community of learners by partnering 30 high school U.S. history teachers with institutions of higher education, historical organizations, and libraries and museums. The project is funded for three years through a grant from the Department of Education.
Project Goals
1. Build teacher knowledge in American history
2. Increased student achievement through quality classroom instruction
3. Development of lead teachers to serve as content coaches
Events and Resources
1. Four two-day seminars each year with local historians
2. One week training in each summer
3. Paid week of instruction at the Ashbrook Center each summer
4. Books, DVDs, and other educational materials provided during seminars and trainings
5. Full set of History Alive! materials
